To contribute to the continuing investigation and treatment of
cancer, and eradicate cancerous diseases, by applying common
criteria (or rules) internationally, the International Union
Against Cancer (UICC), the American Joint Committee on Cancer
(AJCC), and the General Rules Committees of cancer-related
medical societies in Japan, have published classifications and/or
rules of cancer, and have revised them according to accumulated
statistical data.
Cancer is a multistage disease with a malignant nature, which
cannot be classified simply. So the criteria (or rules) involve
aspects of biology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics,
epidemiology, etc., as well as clinical and histopathological
aspects. However, principles of the basic criteria (or rules) are
composed of systematic and common matters.
The systematic, common, and basic criteria (or rules) were
explained from the viewpoint of medical science and medical
terminology.
